Back in December, the Wilderness of Manitoba played a weekly residency at the Dakota Tavern to test drive fifteen new songs that they were planning to record for their fifth album. The successful shows and the positive response from the audiences energized the band going into the studio. With the same line-up that toured with Elliott Brood over a year ago, Will Whitwham (vocals/guitars/keyboards), Raven Shields (vocals, guitar), Tavo Diez de Bonilla (bass) and Mike Brushey (drums/percussion) entered Union Sound in January and cut the bedtracks in three days. Since then, they have been recording overdubs in Whitwham’s home studio and mixing with Matthew Fudge at Revolution Recording and Dan Weston at his studio.
To celebrate the completion of the album, the Wilderness of Manitoba will be playing a special show at the Monarch Tavern on Friday, June 10th. Come and see the band play the new songs live, and get a sneak peek of how the album is shaping up. Not all fifteen songs will make the album so this will be a great chance for people to share their favourites with the band. “The live show,” says founding member and main songwriter Whitwham, “is a constantly evolving portrait of the band and its efforts.”

We’re excited to start mixing our new album on Wednesday at Revolution Recording in Toronto. For those of you who caught our Dakota shows in December, you will recognize a lot of the songs. We hope to have a single out in the late spring with the album following in mid-August. If you can’t wait that long, you can check out one of our more acoustic songs, Wild Wind, here: https://soundcloud.com/wildernessofmanitoba/wild-wind

This Wednesday, we are playing the final night of our December residency at the Dakota Tavern in Toronto. It’s been a blast trying out the new songs and getting your feedback! We are going to take that energy into the studio in January when we start recording our new album. The line-up this week will be familiar to those of you who have been to one of the other nights at the Dakota. In addition to the Wilderness of Manitoba’s set, Will will be performing with Lake Forest, his solo project, and Raven will be performing a set of her songs. So, to finish the year, a CanCon triple bill!
Our good friends over at Pheromone Recordings have released our version of Little Drummer Boy in time for the holidays. Check it out on iTunes: http://bit.ly/twomlittledrummerboy and stream it on Spotify!

We don’t take that lightly. Week three continues next Wednesday, December 16th and the fun begins all over again. Our special guest is Eamon McGrath. Our first set starts at 7:00 PM!
And, no, that’s not pyro in the photo!
